"Inches make champions" – Vince Lombardi
Fear and what drives us to eat!
One of the most empowering lessons I have been blessed to receive at this point in my life is my understanding that for most of my life I have not been able to live in the present moment. To be where my feet are, if you will.
When we are full of fear, we are either living in the past or living in the future. We are afraid of losing something we have or not getting something we want. So we are focused on anything other than being in this present moment, which is in fact the only place that we can affect change in our lives.
Spending time rehashing old conversations or events in order to revise their outcomes (wishful thinking) or worrying about whether or not you will get that promotion next quarter or if that oh so perfect guy you met at Starbucks will actually call (the what if's) does nothing more than create anxiety which is a form of fear. And fear does nothing more than promote that well worn path to the fridge.
Learning to let go of things you cannot control, and staying focused on making the best decisions for yourself, in this moment, that supports who you say you are, and what you say you want will help minimize those treks to the kitchen. Most importantly, this must be done with loving kindness towards yourself and focusing on the progress you are making by celebrating your successes.
Remember, inches make champions!
